Tube news....

We finally heard back from the docs in Seattle regarding their opinion on what to do with the biliary drain. Their recommendation is to pull it out and see what happens. Wade and I both feel that trying this before doing a major surgery is a good idea. If all is well in her biliary system after pulling out the tube we will have spared Kaelyn yet another surgery. Tomorrow Kaelyn has a transplant clinic appointment, so I am going to bring all this up with her docs here. I know that they would much rather do the surgery and I want to find out why.

So, I will try and post tomorrow with more info and what the final decision is. I am hoping and praying that Kaelyn will be tubeless sometime soon and with a healthy liver to boot!

Love you all!

Angie

Hey Angie!! Is Kaelyn's tube looped into the bowel/intestine????? Boo's issue was "no connection" therefore it couldn't be looped thru. There was no drainage whatsoever into the bowel!!! That's where the reconnection surgery came to play. If it is looped into the bowel then there is obviously a connection and pulling it would definitely be a good option before surgery. Each one of these kiddos' anatomy is so different and heals so different too. I wish you luck. Another option is the ggtp number. If its staying fairly low and you know there's a connection then pulling it could be the right option. I hope that she remains WELL throughout these "tube" issues. Keep in touch..........Trudi

Hey Angie!! Just my 2 cents here....I am glad you contacted Seattle. I know Dr. Reyes is well known and has lots of experience. He went there from Pitt as you probably know. I know Megan's Tanner had a GREAT surgeon for transplant, but when there are complications its best to go where the experience is and I know Reyes has that for sure as he came from a high volume transplant center. Also, they know here anatomy from the start!! Just my two cents. Hope you don't mind.....Trudi
